Sample Instructions & Study Plans
These are shown in red and underlined in the Table of Instructions and Plans to the left. You may need to scroll down the page to find all the Study Plans.
Sample Instructions
The Instructions are in Adobe PDF format (see below in Study Plans).

To view click on the instruction book. It will open in a new Adobe Reader window.

To Print, set your printer Page Setup to US Letter or A4. Click the Print icon on the toolbar (or use cmd-P or ctr-P as usual). In the Adobe Print window select All to print the whole of the instruction book or select Current Page or From ... to to print specific pages.

To save the instruction book to your computer, click the Save a Copy toolbar icon, navigate to the folder you would like to save the plan to and click Save. The instruction book is then on your computer and can be retrieved for later use, printing etc.

Once you are done with the instruction book, simply close the Adobe window.

DXF Files

If DXF files are available for the design, we provide a sample file for you to download and send to your local CNC facility for test purposes. DXF should be saved to a folder on your computer, rather than opened. See Downloading DXF files for further information.

Study Plans

To view Study Plans, click on the Plan you require.

Study Plans are in PDF format and will open in a new window, using Adobe Reader. If the plan lines seem thick and clumsy, check in your Adobe Reader Preferences that Resolution is set to suit your system (usually 72 pixels/inch for a Mac and 96 pixels/inch for a PC).

Adobe Reader is pre-installed on many computers and up-to-date versions of most browsers will simply open the plan in a new Adobe window. Some older versions of browsers may ask what application you wish to use – select Adobe Reader. If you don’t have it:

Troubleshooting is available at Browsers and PDF. In particular this tells you what to do if your browser opens a PHP text file instead of the PDF plan or instruction book that you are expecting to open!

Notes about printing on both A4/US Letter printers and A3/Wide Format printers, are available at Plan Formats. Scroll down the page and you will find the section on printing.

Initially we suggest you select the Fit to Page icon, or select Fit to Page in the zoom percentage window. This will give you an overview of the whole drawing. Then perhaps select 100% in the zoom percentage window to make the drawing readable – you can scroll the drawing or move the drawing with the “hand” cursor. At any time you can use the Zoom icon to zoom into a particular part of the drawing to look more closely at detail.

To Print a plan, set your printer Page Setup to Portrait or Landscape to suit the proportions of the plan. Click the Print icon on the toolbar (or use cmd-P or ctr-P as usual). In the Adobe Print window select All.

For small plans you can select Fit to Printer Margins in the Page Scaling menu and the plan will be scaled down to suit your page setup and printer. Click Print.

For larger plans, in the browser window select the portion of the plan you wish to print (using the Select tool icon in the Adobe toolbar). This will automatically copy to your computer clipboard. Select Print using either the Adobe toolbar icon or your computer's print command. In the Adobe Print window select Current Selection. In the Page Scaling menu select None. You will see your selected portion of the drawing on the page preview.

If the selected portion is just a little large for the page, you can alternatively select Fit to Printer Margins and you will get a slightly scaled down print of your selected portion. Click Print.

If the selected portion is substantially too large for the page, return to the browser window and select a smaller portion of the plan. You may need to play about a bit to select a portion of the drawing that reasonably fills the page. Then select Print using either the Adobe toolbar icon or your computer's print command. In the Adobe Print window select Current Selection. In the Page Scaling menu select None or Fit to Printer Margins as appropriate. You will see your selected portion of the drawing on the page preview. Click Print.

Then return to the browser window and select the next section of the plan that you wish to print and repeat the process.

To print out a specific detail, zoom into the area of the plan that you require and then simply select and print this area, as described above.

For most larger plans, printing the complete plan at reduced scale and then just specific parts of it at scale or zoomed size will be found most satisfactory.

To save the plan to your computer, click the Save a Copy toolbar icon, navigate to the folder you would like to save the plan to and click Save. The plan is then on your computer and can be retrieved for later use, printing etc.

Once you are done with the plan, simply close the Adobe window.
