Commissioning a New Design
We can take on a limited number of new design commissions, for amateur or professional builders.Fees for a new design will be agreed at the outset and they normally include all the design work required for the vessel to be built and completed through to sea trials. Payment of fees is usually in several equal stages.
It is difficult to give accurate fee prices for a new design. Traditionally, fees are expressed as a percentage of the professional build cost (5% to 8% is a typical range), but this is not so very helpful at the outset, when considering even the thought of commissioning a new design.
As a rough guide, we would expect our new design fees based simply on boat size to be in the following ranges:
Up to 5.0m (16') | $400 to $1,200 |
5.0m to 6.0m (16' to 20') | $1,200 to $3,000 |
6.0m to 8.0m (20' to 26') | $3,000 to $6,000 |
8.0m to 10.0m (26' to 33') | $6,000 to $10,000 |
10.0m to 12.0m (33' to 39') | $10,000 to $20,000 |
12.0m to 15.0m (39' to 49') | $20,000 to $45,000 |
Please remember that these prices are only a guide; we cost each project individually depending on the complexity and volume of work required.
You are welcome to email us with your thoughts and requirements.
