Design 012

This is - as the Design No. suggests - quite an early design, dating from 1993 - before we had a website, before the internet in any real sense and certainly before the possibility of downloadable designs!

However we DID have computers - I started with an Apple II, which had 48k of memory, and I used Appleworks - which even then, as it is now, was a great integrated suite of programs - for all my design calculations. Later - much later - I progressed to a Mac SE30 and fully integrated 3-D design programs and 2-D drawing programs. The first boat I designed on the SE30 was a 60' charter yacht in aluminium alloy. On that little 9" mono screen I designed every aspect of that yacht - the hull and structures to lloyds 100A1+, every furniture unit, electrical plans, plumbing drawings - just everything that went into the boat. It was six months of really hard work and I could barely keep pace with the production of the boat. As so often in professional yards, we built much of the interior furniture before we built the hull - because it took roughly twice as long to make the interior as it did the hull. So the pressure on the designer to get it right was pretty substantial!

Anyway, enough of reminiscences. Over the next two months or so, I am converting the designs for Design 012, which has been consistently popular, to a downloadable format, which will make it easier and more affordable for builders.
